I'm just a girl...
Morality is a funny thing. It's like porn..people know it when they see it.
Last week in DC we ran into some people from neighboring Washington State. They struck up a conversation with my mother (a conservative Christian and Bush supporter) about their state lacking a Republican to represent them in the US Senate. My mother was appalled. She exclaimed that she had voted for Bush for reasons of "morality". This is why, she says, she always votes Republican.
Normally I'd not have stepped into that thorn bush with my mom. She already knows that our politics are diametrically opposed. But to say that voting Republican is "moral" infers that to vote Democrat is "immoral".
And so I noted that I had voted for Kerry and for other Democrats for reasons of morality as well. I explained that I believe lying to the American people about war is, in my view, one of the most immoral acts ever done. One of the Washingtonians (a Republican) replied, "Did you feel that what Bill Clinton did was immoral?"
Bill Clinton? Jeez. Hasn't he been out of office for...oh...five years now? What has he got to do with this? Oh well..I'll bite...
"Yes," I said. "Lying to prosecutors in an investigation is immoral. But I consider lying to the American people about taking them to war and then sending our soldiers into harms way based on that lie is, based on degrees, vastly more immoral. Don't you think?"
My mother then chimed in, "But I've met lots of people whose kids are serving that say that we need to be in Iraq."
Washingtonian: "Oh yes. I've heard that too. We know several people who are personally serving who say that as well."
I think my head is going to explode at this point.
So if Monica said that she needed to give Bill a bj..that makes his lies okay?
Apparently it is if you're a Republican. Or if you're looking for any excuse to absolve your President's disgusting and horrible behavior.
