MoveOn criticizing the President is bad. The RNC defending a traitor is good.
The RNC is Karl Rove's angry papa, going after the big meanies who dare take him to task for committing a felony and endangering the safety of the country.
Bush surrogates have stepped up their attacks on Democrats who want President Bush to fire Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove for his involvement in the Valerie Plame matter. While the White House continues to maintain silence in the case now before a federal grand jury, surrogates like the Republican National Committee accuse Democrats of using the issue to attack the president.
Yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact that Rove broke the law. Has nothing at all to do with the fact that he compromised an intelligence operative who was supposed to gather intelligence to protect us. Nothing to do with the fact that his little leak put anyone who was in contact with her in mortal danger.
Trying to impeach a President because he's a nasty curb-crawler is using an issue to attack him. Holding a President accountable for his prior words isn't. And Bush did say that he'd come down on whomever the leaker was. Unfortunately for him, it's been confirmed that it's Rove, and it's time for Bush to keep his word and stop his shameless flip-flopping.
"They're really close to overreaching," said one Bush associate, who charged that the Democrats are taking their cues from liberal MoveOn.org. The RNC, meanwhile, has issued talking points that accuse Democrats of being "engaged in an overt partisan smear campaign."
It's true, they are overreaching. It's not like we were really using the CIA's intel anyway. It wasn't telling the administration what it wanted to hear. Why can't these uptight meanies just relax? Though to be fair, Rove should know how to deal with a partisan smear campaign. He's certainly run enough of them. Ask John McCain.
"Democrats don't have confidence in the rule of law or the investigatory process," said an RNC talking point. "If they did, and believed their false claims, they'd let the investigation proceed. They are more concerned with short term political headlines than getting to the bottom of the matter." Other administration associates are suggesting that the Democrats are making a mistake by focusing on the issue because it's driving home charges that the party lacks big ideas and instead wants to block the president's agenda.
The President's agenda of what? World domination? Outing intelligence agents? Unethical activities? Invading and occupying nations on trumped-up charges?
I'm rather concerned that either our President is clueless and doesn't know what his staff is up to, or he's just a lying sack and thinks he and his cronies are above the law.
