"This is a very big story."

Yes, Rep. Conyers. Fox News won't have time to cover it, due to all the Natalee-still-missing coverage, sponsored by Move America Forward's "Liberals Blame America First" campaign. But it's encouraging to see the story mentioned at all by a member of Congress:

But, as Mr. (Josh) Marshall has been asking, what about the documents that purported to prove that Iraq was seeking to purchase uranium from Niger, and were later proven to be obvious forgeries? Who forged them, and whose request and why? Mr. Marshall may be closer to the answer. This paragraph caught my eye this morning:

"I've gotten hints or suggestions from several sources over the last month that new information is bubbling to the surface, not about who leaked Valerie Plame's identity, but who was behind the underlying caper that started the whole drama afoot in the first place: those phoney Niger uranium documents."

Hat tip to Jazz at Running Scared, who says:

Of course, we still don't know what the final answer will be, assuming we get it at all. But imagine if you will... what if the documents originated in America, or at least by the hands of minions of the Bush administration as part of their effort to gin up the war? That would be game over. That's not just "high crimes and misdemeanors." That's treason, plain and simple. That doesn't call for impeachment. It calls for a fucking firing squad.
