New Orleans unraveling

Things are unraveling in New Orleans.

CNN is reporting that thousands are still stranded and conditions are deteriorating:

Outside the New Orleans Convention Center, a huge crowd waited on the sidewalks for aid that could be a long time coming. The building was used as a secondary shelter when the Louisiana Superdome was overwhelmed.

CNN's Chris Lawrence reported that conditions inside the building were appalling -- a number of bodies were visible, including a baby.

"We are out here like pure animals. We don't have any help," Rev. Issac Clark told the Associated Press.

The rightwingers are focused on trying to make sure nobody blames Katrina on global warming and handwringing over looters.

Uncollected dead bodies, thousands of stranded people, overwhelmed shelters, lack of food, lack of drinking water and other disease ridden conditions...and the priority is to focus on shooting looters and making excuses for greenhouse gases. Nice.

The federal government response to this disaster has been completely inadequate and wholly unacceptable. Screeching headlines like Looters Are The Worst Of Humanity fail to recognize that when people don't have food and water, they're going to get desperate and start stealing. Instead of focusing efforts on shooting people who are crazed in fear and desperation..how about focusing on GETTING THEM OUT?

Update: Along the lines of Kev's earlier update, it's evident that federal funds have been diverted from Louisiana's levee system to cover Homeland Security and the War in Iraq. Attytood has the skinny. (via That Colored Fella.)

How 'bout those tax cuts, eh?
