Oregon science standards rate an "F"

Since the No Child Left Behind mandate was put into place, the State of Oregon's science standards appear to have slipped dramatically.

According to a report released by the Fordham Institute (warning PDF), Oregon's standards now rate an "F". In 2000 they rated a "B".

The criticism from Fordham is rather scathing:

There are very few standards overall; they are broadly general and tend to be repeated at higher grade levels with little or no change. The science process standards are perfunctory and their development in higher grades suggests little expectation of student growth.

Wasn't No Child Left Behind supposed to force increased standards?

The sooner we throw away the mess of NCLB and get back to real state accountability, the better.

All of the states' scores are included in the report. Check it out.
