Technically legal...but f the ethics
Bush decides to help the terrorists by further dividing the nation:
Legal experts say that President Bush had the unquestionable authority to approve the disclosure of secret CIA information to reporters, but they add that the leak was highly unusual and amounted to using sensitive intelligence data for political gain."It is a question of whether the classified National Intelligence Estimate was used for domestic political purposes," said Jeffrey H. Smith, a Washington lawyer who formerly served as general counsel for the CIA.
The President of the United States allowed classified information on the identity of a covert CIA agent working with WMD to be leaked to the press for political gain.
So we won't get to see a Presidential perp walk. But apparently there's no end to the lack of scruples for these assholes...and it starts at the top.
The thing that shocks me the most about this is that I've suspected Bush to be kind of a front man..a puppet. Not smart enough to really be responsible for all the shit that goes down.
Obviously I was wrong.
The other twisted part of this already twisted tale is the sociopathic way that Bush has tried to deflect that the leak came from the top. He cooly and calmly talks about the investigation and gave interviews discussing how he wished anyone with inside information would come forward about the leak:
I want to know the truth. If anybody has got any information inside our administration or outside our administration, it would be helpful if they came forward with the information so we can find out whether or not these allegations are true and get on about the business.
This puts even Machiavelli to shame.
