Anti-Mexican Hate Speech Building in Intensity
In an previous post I called attention to the increasingly violent tone of anti-Mexican hate speech, particularly now that so much attention is being called to it.
To update that discussion, I thought readers should know about a Flash videogame that is making the email rounds.
The game is called "Border Patrol" and the object is to kill as many Mexicans as possible as they try to cross the border illegally.
The game, which comes at a time when U.S. leaders are working to revive a sweeping immigration bill in the Senate, encourages players to kill targets such as a "Mexican nationalist," "drug smuggler" and "breeder" (a pregnant woman with two small children) "at any cost." When a target is killed, blood splatters on the screen.
This is way beyond free speech. It will be interesting to see if the makers of this game are investigated with the same vigor as has been applied to peace activists and Quakers.
Meanwhile, can we get to work on actually addressing some of the causes of this illegal immigration problem?
