Peggy Noonan: Give the terrorists what they want

Noonan is up in arms that the jury in Virginia didn't decide to off Zacarias Moussaoui.

Moussaoui wants to be a martyr for the cause. Executing him gives him just that.

Noonan also contradicts herself right out of the gate. She says, "The death penalty has a meaning, and it isn't vengeance" and immediately following quotes Moussaoui:

Moussaoui said as he was led from the courtroom: "America, you lost." He clapped his hands.

If this isn't a set up for a vengeance slaying...then I don't know what is. Noonan is pissed that Moussaoui is poking a stick at 9/11 and wants it to stop. That's an understandable feeling. But she's allowing Moussaoui to manipulate her feelings to the point of irrationality.

Not to mention the fact that Moussaoui will have to live in prison for the rest of his life--a deranged, ugly, tortuous existence. That seems like a more fitting punishment than death for his crimes.

Maha made mention yesterday of the fact that Moussaoui has important knowledge about 9/11 that he has yet to reveal as well. And he's the only one who has that information. Kill him..and that dies with him.
