Homosexual bigotry vs God
Our national ongoing conversation about the bigotry foisted on gays and lesbians by certain sectors of this society was renewed this week with the comments by Marine General Peter Pace, claiming that homosexuality is immoral. This view seems to be based on Pace's Christian beliefs.
While Pace is entitled to his views, they don't seem to be supported by the Bible. Unless that is, Pace is willing to go back to a system where we kicked divorced people out of churches and bring back slavery.
Chuck Currie has an excellent post on this topic--the main idea finding that this bigotry does nothing to build up society and merely serves to devalue the lives of gays and lesbians.
The Rev Peter Gomes has also written a superb book which includes an extensive chapter on the Bible and homosexuality.
Using the Bible to subjugate an entire set of human beings is immoral. Using the church and religious beliefs to do it is a shameful and disgusting act. Denying these people equal rights under the law is unforgivable.
