Surprise! Al Gore's Not a Weirdo
I know I'm late in the game, but last night I finally watched "An Inconvenient Truth." I had to wait until my husband was out of town; he gets a bit irritated when I indoctrinate my children with "liberal propaganda." Anyway, what impressed me the most was the chart showing the historical levels of CO2 compared to earth temperatures. When Al Gore stepped onto the lift and went up to show us where the level is today, my heart was in my throat. We're in deep doo-doo, people.
But that wasn't what impressed my son, who's heard my husband rant and rave about what a whack job Al Gore is. He's laughed at the "manbearpig" and "I'm serial" jokes for months. After the movie was done he turned to me with sincere suprise and said, "Wow. Al Gore isn't a weirdo at all. He's actually a really smart guy." His jaw hit the floor when I informed him about the role Gore played in bringing us the Internet. He really is a smart guy.
I've got to tell you, five years ago I would never in a million years have thought I'd be having a positive conversation with my son about Al Gore. How quickly things change.
