Shorter! Dorchester!

If you want a real good read at this year's Dorchester! Conference (where the Cthulhu-summoning apparently once again came up empty-handed) then read BlueO and Ridenbaugh and Mapes, all of whom have the time and resources to do this with insight and wit.

I do not. Therefore, a pocketful of snark:

  • The Nice Republican unexpectedly beat The Empty Suit in straw polling. I guess charisma isn't everything after all.
  • Wild Bill Sizemore got just one vote. Just one. A single. One as in "The Loneliest Number". I didn't know they allowed you to vote for yourself at Dorchester! I wonder how Bill's taking the fact that, despite his legal woes and what he's done for them in the past, The ORGOP has completely moved on. So much for that quixotic campaign … but don't kick yourself, Bill. It's not you, it's them.
  • John Lim (if that is his name) could have a career in comedy – the intentional kind, rather than the kind he usually specializes in. Needs to polish his material though.

The takeaway is that Allen Alley is still the designated chump in the upcoming gubernatorial sweepstakes, which will still be a battle royale between Kitzhaber and Bradbury (who are lining up labor endorsements like mad).

Although, on a serious note, Alley's strong showing suggests that organizing does still matter and a former NBA player is no substitute for a sense of purpose and an actual brain cell or two, though I'm not ready to say that brain is coming back in style amongst ORGOPpers.
