Tea Party Republicans: Why We Can't Have Nice Things

Today's GOP, in Oregon as in other places, scarcely spares a though about what they look like to other people. After all, when you're right, why care about what the benighted think?

The Maine GOP is working hard to turn Maine into an Arizona-level laughingstock. At their recent state convention, in the other Portland, they binned the proposed GOP platform in favor of something written in crayon by the Tea Partiers. It'd be amusing if it wasn't also so sad.

The actual Maine GOP is none too happy about it but ... well, it sucks when the tools start using you back, doesn't it?

Nifty.

But the real fun began when they repaired to a Portland-area school to break up into caucus groups. Now, teacher Paul Clifford's classroom (and respect for conservatives as well, no doubt) needs repair:

  • The Tea Partiers tore down a poster depicting the labor movement that had remained on the door of the classroom for seven years, replacing it with a sticker reading (sit down for this) Working People Vote Republican. I'm assuming the pudding-for-brains who put it up did so with a straight face. They don't appreciate irony, hypocrisy, or other things they can't pronounce or spell.
  • Someone took it upon themselves to open a closed box and rifle it to find that it contained copies of the Constitution. You know, the one they worship like a fetish? The document they claim to understand? Problem is they were donated by the ACLU.
  • After the caucuses, they called the school, bitching about what they found in a room they were being invited in as guests to use

I always knew Tea Partiers were ignorant bullies. I figured they had a scruple or two, but that's my bad. I was always sure that, regardless of how they say they lurved it, they really don't care much for the Constitution, becoming confused and disoriented when they actually read it ... much the same way they feel once they actually read the Bible they also claim they know.

Think Progress has a loverly omnibus post with links anon.

... and if you think they're bad enough doing this, imagine what happens when they get control of an actual government.

Oh, wait ... that's already happened.
